• Discussions of proposal with elected officials (City and County Council members, the Mayor, County Commissioners, county officials, state representatives and senators) 

April, 2005 – May 2005

• Public hearings on the proposal 

June, 2005 – July, 2005

• Amend or refine the proposal 

August, 2005- December, 2005

• Have legislation prepared for introduction in the 2006 session of the legislature

• Continue to build public support through an education campaign

• Demonstrate public support through polling 

December, 2005 – March, 2006

• Lobby for passage of legislation authorizing a binding referendum on the proposed unification plan.

April, 2006 – November, 2006

• Intensify public education campaign

November, 2006

• Get out the vote for the referendum

May, 2007

• Primary for new metro offices

November, 2007

• General election for new metro offices

January 1, 2008

• New metropolitan government is inaugurated
