General Meeting and Membership Picnic

Burdette Park
President Linda Cleek called the meeting to order at 1:45 p.m.
Secretary's Report: Minutes of the May 18, 2006, general meeting were approved.
Introductions: Cleek wanted to let those who attended the picnic what WIA
committees are doing... In addition, Cleek stated that anyone that anyone
wanting to be on the Board should contact Joyce Moers. Cleek announced that the
next Board meeting would take place the last Wednesday of September, 4 p.m., at
Red Bank Library. Cleek also invited everyone to attend the Annual Award Banquet
on November 23. She informed the attendees that scholarships would be awarded
and new officers would be elected.
Picnic - Moers reported
- Moers introduced the members of the picnic committee and each
person's contribution to the picnic planning and implementation.
- Publicity - Cleek reported
- Cleek introduced WIA's brochure about what the organization is all
about.
- Scholarship - Cleek reported
- Cleek talked about the scholarship program and introduced the
committee chairman, George Thompson.
- Pollution and Conservation - Cleek reported
- No one head up that committee, but Cleek thinks there might be a few
interested people.
- Parks – Shirley James reported
- James mentioned the Conservation Park that WIA started with Dennis
Owens and explained that the Dorothy Avenue exit is a problem with
implementing the plans for the park.
- James informed attendees about the ongoing city pools situation.
- Land Use and Planning – Fred Padget reported
- Padget stated that land use and planning mostly involves rezonings
and sometimes appeals in which WIA is interested. Padget explained that
WIA is not against all projects, especially where good planning and
smart land use are in place. WIA looks at what is good for the city, the
county, and the region.
- Padget explained that Mike Lockard is the chairman of the committee,
but he has a job where he travels extensively.
- Media - Cleek reported
- WIA has a three prong media network composed of a newsletter,
call committee, and Web site.
- Transportation - no report
- Membership – DeAnna Outlaw reported
- The membership list is being updated.
- WIA is in the midst of an ongoing membership drive.
- Fall Festival - Cleek reported
- Cleek explained that the Fall Festival is WIA's the biggest fund
raiser of the year. She asked for volunteers to work at the booth.
