Membership picnic attracts a crowd

By Dot Berning, membership secretary

More than 70 members, potential members and guests gathered at Burdette Park on September 13 for the association’s fourth membership picnic.

Following a meal of fried chicken and the fixings, guest speaker, Congressman Brad Ellsworth, declared that “This country has to change and pull together.” He discussed the spirit and focus America had following 9/11, saying we should “have that spirit and focus 365 days a year.”  He talked about the energy problem and the many sources of energy that could be developed, about the economy and America’s involvement in Georgia and Pakistan. “Prevention of all issues is by far the least costly way of fixing many things,” the former Vanderburgh County sheriff continued. He challenged us to “listen to all sides” of any issue, adding that what may seem insignificant to one may be critically important to another.

A general membership meeting followed. DeAnna Outlaw, WIA president, reported that 13 people had signed up during the picnic to work in our Fall Festival booth.

She thanked Joyce Moers and her picnic committee for planning such a successful event.
