President DeAnna Outlaw called the meeting to order at 4 p.m.
Outlaw asked that board members make an effort to arrive on time and stay until
the scheduled ending time of 5:30.
Secretary’s Report: Minutes were approved as written on a motion by Fred
Padget and second by Dot Berning.
Treasurer’s Report: Padget explained recent expenses. In answer to a
question from Carolyn Stagg, he reported that Fall Festival space rental is paid
in the year prior to the event. WIA’s insurance costs had gone to around $1,200;
Padget investigated and found comparable insurance for less than $600. We have
received a $25 contribution for Adopt-a-Spot. All required state and federal tax
forms have been filed for 2006.
NB: Fred has been in touch with Bernice Sensmeier’s daughter. Bernice is now
living in South Carolina. Fred has her address if anyone is interested in
corresponding with her.

Room.

on March 29, C. K. Newsome Center, 7 p.m.
- Linda Cleek invited everyone to attend an oral
argument before a three-judge panel from of the Indiana Court of Appeals on
March 29, 2 p.m., USI’s Mitchell Auditorium.
Guest Presentation:
Lauren Preske from Howell Wetlands brought a sample “teacher’s trunk” activities
set. This is one of the items purchased and assembled using funds donated by WIA
last year. The trunk includes a teacher’s resource manual with lesson plans,
activity sets, posters, etc. The trunks are loaned to teachers to use in
conjunction with field trips and for general learning about wetlands. Berning
suggested having Preske present at a general meeting. Outlaw suggested having
her at the picnic. Many agreed that was a good idea.
Committee Reports:
- Law Enforcement - Officer Joe Dickinson distributed
reports on crime in the West Sector. The car break-in artist (who drives a
BMW!!) is still at large. Criminal mischief is starting early this year, but
an arrest has been made in one case.
- Land Use – Padget’s reports are in the newsletter
and on the Web site. The 250 S. Red Bank rezoning saga has finally been
resolved and the jewelry store remodeling is proceeding. There are no
Westside rezonings coming up in April. A new rezoning on St. Joe changing
from agricultural to manufacturing has been filed for May; no additional
information is available at this time.
- Call Committee – Dot Berning would like to revive
the call committee, particularly for board meetings. Ideas including
reminder post cards and e-mails were discussed.
- Adopt-a-Spot – Berning reported that the
possibilities on the corner are great. Keep Evansville Beautiful is
organizing a meeting with the committee and others to talk about expanding
the “spot” and bringing in other partners. She commended co-chair George
Thompson on his pruning. Mel Runge is also serving on the committee.
Old Business – none
New Business:
- John Blair has been in contact asking about the
possibility of another $750 donation. A quorum not being present, no vote
could be taken, but discussion ensued. Thompson suggested asking for a
report on what last year’s donation was used for. There was a general
feeling that WIA should have a better idea of where our money is going.
Thompson moved and Berning seconded that discussion should be tabled until a
quorum is present.
- Annual banquet – some people haven’t been thrilled
with the Old Mill lately. Suggestions include USI, Golden Corral, Burdette,
the Korner. Outlaw and Cleek will investigate the possibilities.
- Colin Powell presentation – a group of 12 has
tickets for the auditorium. Outlaw suggested meeting in the lobby at 6 p.m.
Adjournment – 5:12 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Linda Cleek, Secretary
Next Board Meeting: Wednesday, April 25, 4 p.m., Red Bank Branch Library
Next General Meeting – Thursday, May 17, 7 p.m.,
