President DeAnna Outlaw called the meeting to order at 4:04 p.m.

Announcements:

  • Joyce Moers mother recently passed away. WIA donated $50 to Meals-on-Wheels in her honor, and we have received a thank-you note.
  • The West Side Nut Club sent us a $25.00 contribution..

Secretary’s Report: Minutes from the April board meeting were approved on a motion from Brenda Jeffers and a second from Bill Jeffers.

Treasurer’s Report: Fred Padget presented the report for May 2009. He pointed up that fewer than half of the members have paid their dues for 2009. There was discussion of whether to send reminders by phone, mail, or email. Linda Cleek volunteered to help set-up a mail merge for those with email addresses.

New Business: none

Old Business/Adopt-a-Spot Committee Report: Brenda Jeffers discussed how to get the Adopt-A-Spot watered. Aphrodite Hudson is a member of an organization looking for a project and watering was suggested. The organization, however, doesn’t meet again until July. Watering takes over an hour each time, at least once a week. Further gardening discussion ensued. Berning asked that anyone who can spend some time at the spot weeding. Bill Jeffers reported he spoke with Steve Bohleber of the Parks Board who said that getting water to the spot has to be coordinated with Keep Evansville Beautiful.

Committee Reports:

  • Web site – no new developments
  • Land Use – Fred Padget reported there will be an announcement about the proposed downtown arena shortly. Other items:
    • Padget explained the need for down zoning when property being used as residential is zoned commercial. It is mostly a technicality.
    • The requested rezoning of The Korner from C2 to C4 is problematic because of the breadth of applications.
    • A couple of very small subdivision rezoning are in the works. Padget reminded us that all subdivisions that meet the code requirements MUST be passed by APC.
    • The meeting concerning the annexation on the west side held on Monday night drew a large crowd. The question of land zoned agricultural was raised. If the annexation takes place, that land will automatically be rezoned residential. There has been discussion of changing the proposed annexation area. It may be that any changes in the proposed area to be annexed will stop the clock. Then there was ranting about the Homestead Tax Exemption debacle.
  • West Sector – in the absence of Ava Nix, Carolyn Stagg reported on the progress of planning for the National Night Out. Opening ceremonies will start at 5:50 on Tuesday, August 4, at Garvin Park. Bill Jeffers moved and Wayne Gerteisen seconded that Padget send the budgeted $200 contribution to NNO. The police recommend not putting your home address in your GPS in case of loss or theft. Instead, use a nearby commercial address.
  • Newsletter – Mel Runge asked that articles be in by July 3.
  • Fall Festival – Outlaw asked that anyone interested in serving on the committee contact her by the end of June. Stagg asked what the committee responsibilities are and Outlaw responded that it’s planning the menu, prices, etc., as well as helping to recruit volunteers.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:10 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Linda Cleek, Secretary
