Committee Reports: Web Site - Linda Cleek reported that a link to a short pictorial history of the West side is now posted. Transportation – Bill Harty reported that the City Engineer says there
have been no complaints about the slow progress on St. Joe, so anyone who feels
it’s taking too long should call the City Engineer. Mel Runge added that the
work on the road has lead to an extremely dangerous situation on Mt. Auburn. (on
Mt. Auburn Road halfway between Buchanan and St. Joe) Runge moved that WIA write
letters to the Mayor and City Engineers office about the situation. Dot Berning
seconded the motion, which passed without opposition. Outlaw will write the
letters.
Parks – Brenda Jeffers has begun attending the city parks department meetings. At the June 18 meeting, additional site work at the Zoo was approved and a contract awarded for paving work. Additional state funds have been awarded for extension of the Pigeon Creek Greenway Passage. Things are going pretty well with the pools this summer. A group of volunteers cleaned up areas in Garvin Park and along the Greenway on June 14. Historian – Aphrodite Hudson is just getting this effort started. Adopt-a-Spot – Berning reported that Chris Reddington picked up blocks for the spot this week. Many volunteers are assisting this year. Long-range planning for the corner is underway. The possibility of the Shirley James memorial being on this corner was discussed. The Westside Nut Club will do some additional work on the corner. The Alcoa Foundation, through UNOE, is awarding WIA a $250 Litter Patrol grant which we can use with the Helfrich Park kids helping with the Spot. Membership – Berning reported another recruitment day is planned for Schnuck’s later this summer. National Night Out – Brenda Jeffers attended the last meeting of the NNO committee. They are buying an official National Night Out mascot costume. Old Business: By-laws – the issue of the size of the quorum for general meetings was revisited. Wayne Gerteisen moved that ten be the quorum number for general meetings, seconded by Brenda Jeffers. The motion passed. Announcement - Brenda Jeffers distributed copies of The City-County Observer, a new free publication. The meeting was adjourned at 5:06 p.m. Respectfully submitted,
