A quorum not being present, there was no call to order. Those attending held informal discussions as follows.

Announcements/Discussion Topics:

  •  Terry Berning is now convalescing at home.

  •  The “train on Ohio Street” signs are in place and should begin working this week.

  •  The Vanderburgh County Soil and Water Conservation District gave Mayor Weinzapfel the “Urban Conservation” award for recent measures taken by the City.

  •  Fred Padget went over requirements of the IRS for 501© 3 organizations.

  •  Padget distributed lists of WIA members and of newsletter recipients.

  •  The County Commission will now hear zoning issues the month AFTER they are acted upon by the Area Plan Commission, rather than the same month.

  •  The requested R-4 rezoning for the Ramsey Development at the Lloyd and University Parkway was approved. The C-1 request for part of the development was dropped.

  •  The Majestic Place development is being discussed by the neighbors and developers. It will probably not go back to APC before April or May.

  •  The stimulus money awarded to Evansville includes $2.8 million for further work on the Pigeon Creek Greenway Passage, as well as many other projects.

  •  There will be a Greenway Clean-Up Day on Saturday, March 28.

  •  Carolyn Stagg read a thank-you letter from scholarship recipient Michelle Liley of Reitz High School.

  •  Kohls has a program for assisting with community projects through volunteers and cash contributions. Anyone interested should contact the store manager.

  •  Dot Berning reported that Ann Ennis of Keep Evansville Beautiful likes the “big” plans for WIA’s Adopt-a-Spot and will take the ideas to the Parks Board.

  •  Considerable funding commitment from the city would be required. Pending that, we will go ahead with the spot similar to last year’s plan.

  •  Linda Cleek told the group about a program on local government reform being held at USI on March 10.

The discussion ended at 5:30 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Linda Cleek, Secretary
