About the West Sector - the Evansville Police Department has divided the city into three sectors for organizational purposes. You can see the boundaries on the EPD web site. Each sector is divided into beats and each beat has a crime prevention officer (CPO) assigned to it. There are six beats in the West Sector. Much of WIA's geographic area falls into Beat One, which includes everything west of Pigeon Creek. Officer Kurt Chapman, Beat One CPO, is the EPD representative to the WIA board. Public meetings of the West Sector Citizen's Committee are held at the West Sector Office (619 N. Main) on the third Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. Brief reports on these meetings appear below. February 2003 - Click here for minutes of the meeting. October 2002 - Click here for minutes of the meeting. September 2002 - Click here for minutes of the meeting. August 2002 - Click here for minutes of the meeting. July 2002 - Click here for minutes of the meeting. June 2002 - a highlight of the meeting was a presentation on a recent graffiti eradication campaign. Representatives of the EPD, Weed & Seed, and the public spent a Saturday repainting garages to cover the tags, profanity, and gang symbols painted there. Another major topic was the upcoming National Night Out to be held Tuesday, August 6. The West Sector festivities are in Garvin Park, 6-8 p.m. East Sector activities are at Lorraine Park on Boeke Road while South Sector activities are in Akin Park south of Washington Avenue and east of Kentucky Avenue. |
