President DeAnna Outlaw called the meeting to order at 4 p.m.

There were no minutes from July

Treasurer’s Report – Fred Padget gave the report. Sam Wentzel reminded the group that the National Night Out contribution needs to be sent immediately. He presented it in the form of a motion, seconded by Linda Cleek. The motion passed without dissent.

Action Items:

• Outlaw announced that George Thompson has resigned as junior vice president and that Carolyn Stagg has agreed to fill the post for the rest of 2008. The board unanimously agreed.
• Outlaw asked the board for approval to purchase a reusable vinyl banner for WIA. She has a price of approximately $150 from one vendor, and will get a few more estimates. Padget moved and Wayne Gerteisen seconded, the motion passed without opposition.

Committee Reports:

  • Picnic—Joyce Moers reported on plans for the picnic on September 13. Flyers are in the mail today.

  • Nominating – Moers presented the list of nominees and board members (attached). They will be presented at the picnic and voting will take place at the annual meeting in November. Nominations from the floor will be accepted at that time.

  • Newsletter – In the absence of Mel Runge, Outlaw reported that the most recent newsletter was published by WIA with the assistance of UNO. Thanks to Pam Locker, Runge, Padget, and others for their work. It looks like we can save about $3,400 annually.

  • Adopt-a-Spot – Dot Berning. Keep Evansville Beautiful ratings are in. Our ratings were nine out of ten on most criteria. October 21 is the annual luncheon. KEB is working on some changes to the Adopt-a-Spot program.

  • Membership – Nunn Milling and Sterling United FCU have renewed their business memberships.

  • Historian – no report.

  • West Sector – Ava Nix. The monthly safety topic was school bus stop safety.

  • UNOE – Padget reported that the UNOE–sponsored meetings with assessor Jonathan Weaver attracted more than 500 people. UNOE is also working with the various animal control ordinances.

  • Transportation – Bill Harty advised that anyone unhappy with the progress/safety of the wrok on St. Joe complain to the city engineer. Dave Rockwood disagreed, saying that he drives St. Joe frequently and hasn’t seen many problems. There was also a discussion of the difficulties at the Ohio Street/Fulton/Lloyd/Second Street intersection. Outlaw asked Harty to write an article for the September newsletter.

  • Solid Waste & UNOE – no reports.

  • Land Use –Padget reported there are no pending rezoning at the next APC meeting. Other items were:

    • The 356 S. Red Bank rezoning is scheduled for the City Council. Both sides have hired lawyers, and the dispute shows no sign of resolution. Most of the neighbors would be amenable to an R2 rather than an R3 rezoning.

    • Nix asked about annexation. Padget reported there has been no news.

    • There is work underway to put an Aldi discount grocery store next to the Home Depot.

    • Mayor Weinzapfel asked the Smart Growth group to pull together information on environmentally-friendly development.

  • Environment – Dave Rockwood. The vacant lot next to Kohl’s needs some clean up. The lot is currently being plumbed. There may be an illegal dump on USI property near the cross country trail. We are exploring whether or not our UNOE grant can be used for clean-up supplies.

  • Fall Festival – Outlaw. The committee has decided to use RC products instead of Coke products this year. Copies of the new menu were distributed. Deep fried cheese balls are being added to the menu this year. The booth will be inspected at an RV center this month.

New Business: Padget would like to relinquish his position as representative to the Vanderburgh County Soil and Water Conservation District. Most meetings are on Monday evenings at 7 p.m.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:30 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Linda Cleek, Secretary

Next meeting: Membership Picnic, Saturday, September 13, Burdette Park
