Board Meeting

President Fred Padget called the meeting to order at 4:03 p.m.

Secretary’s Report: Minutes of the March meeting were approved on a
motion by Jim Gillenwater and a second by Bernice Sensmeier after Linda Cleek
pointed out that the reference to the West Sector meeting under “Law
Enforcement” referred to the February meeting.
Treasurer’s Report: Sensmeier presented the treasurer’s report.
President’s Report: A written report (posted
on the WIA Web site) was distributed. Additionally, Padget reported:

The Vanderburgh County Alcoholic Beverage Commission approved
(maybe) the permit for package sales at Zeller’s Convenience Store at Red Bank
Road and the Expressway. WIA’s position is in support of a County Council
resolution recommending convenience stores not be given special leniency for
package sales.

The City-County Unification Committee continues its study.
There will be a public input session on Wednesday, June 23, 7 p.m., at The
Centre.

A chair for the 2005 nominating committee is needed.
-
National Night Out will be held at Garvin Park on August 3.
Joyce Moers will chair and Brenda Jeffers and Paul Farmer volunteered to work
on the program. Jeffers will also provide a poster for NNO. Sam
Wentzel moved that WIA contribute $200 in support of NNO. The motion passed
without opposition after a second from Gillenwater.

Paul Farmer will chair Candidate’s Night with assistance from
Wentzel.
Announcements
-
Gillenwater reported the long-awaited “train on track” light
at Ohio Street and Fulton Avenue is ONCE AGAIN scheduled for completion this
year.

The junkyard on inner Broadway has been ordered to be cleaned
up.
-
The Mayor’s Traveling City Hall has brought attention to areas
of the city without city waters and sewers. WIA might help to inventory such
areas.
Committee Reports
-
Membership Meeting—Dot Berning reported that Wayne Gerteisen,
Moers, Shelby Musgrave, Mel Runge, and Wentzel are working on the meeting
scheduled for Saturday, August 14, at Burdette Park Shelter House # 16. Marx
Barbecue can provide the meal at $4.95/person. Plans include activities
starting at 11 with the meal at noon and a membership meeting following.
Publicity will begin soon. Gillenwater moved that WIA support the committee’s
recommendations. Farmer second the motion which passed without opposition.

Fall Festival—Bonnie Kolb reported that a group of members
active in the Fall Festival activities met at Farm Boy Foods to sample several
possible replacements for the Italina sausage sandwiches. The item selected is
a smoked pork chop that can be served on a bun or on a stick as a low-carb
“Pork Chop Stick.” Gillenwater moved that the committee recommendations be
accepted. Bill Harty seconded; the motion passed with out opposition.

Pollution & Conservation—Brenda Jeffers reported in Trena
Roedel’s absence. Pickin’ on the Pigeon was plagued with bad weather and most
activities were moved to Garvin Park.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:30 p.m.
