Exerting influence upon public and private sectors to accomplish those objectives which will enhance the natural environment of the west side of Vanderburgh County, and serve the common good of the residents.

The Westside Improvement Association, Inc., is a nonprofit organization [501 (c) (3)] which exists solely to act for the betterment of the west side of Vanderburgh County.  Read our by-laws.

Westside Improvement Association (WIA) holds four general membership meetings each year, including an annual banquet in November.  The governing board of directors meets each month not scheduled for general meetings except December.  Board of Directors meetings are held on the 4th Wednesday of January, March, April, June, July, September, and October at 4 p.m. at Red Bank Branch Library.   General membership meetings are held on the third Thursday of February, May, August, and November.  Visit our Meetings & Events page for up-to-date information.

A note about dues:  Thanks to all who responded to our recent reminder letter for 2007 dues.  And, thanks to all who had previously paid 2007 dues and the many who have already paid for 2008.  Your membership is very important and appreciated!  If you'd like to pay dues, or need to check on whether your dues are current, contact treasurer Fred Padget, 428-2529.

WIA needs you . . . as an active member or contributor!

Serving on one of WIA's standing committees is a great way to get involved in the particular aspects of Westside Improvement that most interest you.  We need interested people for the following committees.  No particular expertise is needed--just an interest in learning more about west side challenges and opportunities and a desire to make a difference for the better!

There are other ways to get involved in WIA as well.  The active participation of every member is necessary if we are to build on recent successes in securing responsible development and pursuing environmental goals.  We also need:

  • Contributors to the monthly newsletter and Web site
  • Representative to the Soil & Water Conservation District (one meeting monthly)
  • Representative to United Neighborhoods of Evansville (UNOE)
  • General Meeting program ideas
  • National Night Out Committee (NNO occurs in early August)
  • Candidates' Night Committee (Candidate's night is usually in September)
  • Day Captains and workers for the Fall Festival Booth

If you prefer to be involved through monetary contributions, that's great also.  We accept contributions to our Shirely James Memorial, Scholarship, Adopt-a-Spot, Fall Festival Booth Improvement, and General funds.  Because the WIA is a 501-C-3 Not-for-Profit organization, your contribution may be deductible for income tax purposes. Your tax preparer can advise you.
